SLEEP DIFFICULTIES

These can be very debilitating. They can range from being unable to drop off to sleep, sleeping fitfully, to waking early with your mind going over things that happened yesterday, or what you are going to do tomorrow, or a combination of all of these.

You might be very sensitive to noise and notice every plane going overhead. Alternatively, your sleep may be disturbed on a regular basis by unpleasant dreams or nightmares.

Some of my clients have only had problems since having children, their normal pattern disrupted by the need to get up in the night to tend to a child. Others tell me that they have always had trouble sleeping and rarely feel they get quality sleep.

Very often people start to worry as bedtime approaches that they won't be able to sleep, in effect hypnotising themselves not to sleep and a sleep-deprived night then becomes a self-fulfilling prophesy.

Hypnosis often works well here and treatment includes learning self-hypnosis.
